Itinerary

  1. Introduccion

    On this 5-day tour that is one of the most impressive treks in Cusco. This great walk will allow us to see incredible landscapes, imposing snowy peaks, waterfalls, rivers and small towns, it is nature in its purest form. This hiking route is ideal for those who want to reach Machu Picchu by a different and authentic path, approaching Andean communities and away from noise. All this makes this Salkantay Trek the perfect alternative to the Inca Trail.

  1. Day 1 Cuzco - Mollepata - Soraypampa

    Mollepata to Salkantay 

    The Salkantay Trek begins in Cusco. Transportation will come to your respective lodges. After the pick-up we will go to Mollepata, in a journey of 3 hours, where we can have breakfast (not included).

     

    We will also have time to buy the last items and then the transport will take us to Challacancha, from where we will start the trekking. We will walk along the trail, observing the first landscapes with mountains and valleys. After 3 hours of trekking, we will arrive at the first camp, Soraypampa, at 3900 mm. where we will have our lunch and time to recover energies.

     

    (16 km on foot, 6 hours).

    Visit to Laguna Humantay

    In the afternoon we will ascend to the lagoon of Humantay, natural spectacle, to 1 hour and a half of the camp. In the background you can see the glacier of the same name, then return to our camp where we dislike dinner, where we share and receive instructions from the guide for the next day, before sleeping in our tents.

  2. Day 2 Soraypampa - Soyrococha – Huayracmachay – Colpapampa

    Abra Salkantay

    We will start the day with a coca tea in our camps, then we will start the ascent through the mountains, seeing the difference in the landscape with the previous day.

    Our destination will be Abra Salkantay, at 4650 mnm, for lunch. 

    After enjoying lunch and recovering our energy, we will start descending, passing from a cold and mountainous landscape to a warm and jungle one, until the Chaullay camp (2900 m of altitude).

  3. Day 3 Colpapampa – Playa Sahuayaco – Santa Teresa - Cocalmayo

    Salkantay - > Playa Sahuayaco

    The next day after breakfast we'll start walking. In the route we will see different plantations, among which are the quinoa and the pomegranate. The guide will give us explanations about some flowers and their importance in the Andean culture. After 5 hours of walking, we will arrive at Sahuayaco beach, where we will have our lunch.

    After lunch, we follow the bus route to Santa Teresa, where we spend our third night. In the afternoon you can go to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo, complexes with 3 pools of different temperatures, and recover the muscles of the walk of the previous days. During the night we will have dinner.

  4. Day 4 Santa Teresa - Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes

    After breakfast we will start the 3-hour walk that will take us to the Hydroelectric. There we will eat and after a short rest we will continue on foot for another 3 hours following the train line until we reach Aguas Calientes, where we will have dinner. We will go to bed early because the next day one of the most special moments of our tour, the imposing fortress of Machu Picchu, awaits us.

  5. Day 5 Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

    At dawn we get up around 4:00 a.m. where we will receive a small Box Lunch, to go to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu, the walk will last an hour and a half (if you feel tired you can skip the walk and take the bus). We will enter the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and enjoy a guided tour of the main points of Machu Picchu for approximately two hours. At the end you will have time to visit Machu Picchu individually or climb the mountains (Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu) if you have your reservation made.

    Bus tickets to Machu Picchu can be purchased in the town of Aguas Calientes or can be purchased in advance with us.

    At the end of the visit we will return to Aguas Calientes (if you want you can return by bus to avoid the walk, buying the ticket there for 12 usd per way), we will have time to eat and take the train that will take us to Ollantaytambo, where we will be waiting our transport that will take us to Cusco.
